Q&As with Alexander
Who are you?
My name is Alexander Jensen. I am from Denmark and have lived most of my life in Copenhagen. My expertise is quite broad as I have a background in nanobiotechnology, atmospheric chemistry, and occupational health.
How would you describe yourself?
I am structured and use my curiosity to actively learn and gain new skills. I work with a holistic mindset and enjoy creating connections and a good working environment for the people around me.
What do you do at European Energy?
I work as Senior R&D engineer in Ammongas, which is a company acquired by European Energy in 2022. In this role, I am developing the chemistry-related part of our technology, which includes out-of-the-ordinary inquiries from costumers. In addition, I am involved with the maintenance of our procedures and chemical risk assessments as a part of the implementation of a quality management system in Ammongas. Furthermore, I am working with the automation of our data analyses in Python to enable better data driven decisions. As elected work environment representative for Ammongas and Power-to-X, I am involved with ensuring the general well-being at work in European Energy, which is also why I am a member of the party crew that organises the Friday bars.
How do you try to be a creative enabler of the green transition?
I aspire to keep an open mind, being curious and to continuously learn to develop my skills. I love exploring new technology and enjoy problem solving while making connections to existing technology and procedures.
What are the best things about working at European Energy?
The best thing about working for European Energy and Ammongas is the feeling of making a difference with a team of great colleagues. European Energy’s vision on driving the green transition is important to me.
Why is it important for you that European Energy is a driving force in the green transition?
I believe European Energy is among the leaders of the green transition. We are all facing the severity of climate change and need independence from fossil fuels. European Energy and Ammongas are driving the transition to biogas, wind, and solar energies which are included in the types of energy with a low climate forcing effect. Therefore, I believe that by being part of European Energy and Ammongas, I can have a small role in ensuring a livable planet for the generations to come. The planet will remain without humans, but we cannot survive without a livable planet.
What are the best things about your colleagues?
The best thing about my colleagues is the day-to-day fun and friendly conversations and discussions that we have across departments and structures in the company. There is a sense of work joy all around. Furthermore, going to the office sauna with colleagues as well as meeting for other non-work-related activities such as bouldering allows for stronger connections and better collaborations.
European Energy has six core values. In it together, Excitement, Inclusion, Agility, Trust & Courage, and Ambition. What are the most important values for you and why?
I think that the core value most important for me is ambition. It takes ambition to change the world and challenge the status quo, especially when trying to decarbonise such heavy industries as the oil and gas industry. I feel it brings excitement to be part of that journey.
What has been your best experience so far at European Energy/Ammongas?
In Ammongas, I took responsibility for our carbon capture pilot plant that was located and running near a power plant in Jutland. The operation was part of a research project to determine emissions of carbon capture from flue gas, as well as determining optimal operational parameters. It was an opportunity for me to get out into the field and get my hands into technology as well as collaborate with some interesting external stakeholders.
What do you like to do outside work?
Outside of work, I enjoy doing bouldering, which is a wall climbing sport. This is what my picture is representing, and it is a great way of strength and balance training! Other than that, I like improvisational theatre and comedy, where I can be creative and have fun on stage with stage partners while building on each other’s ideas. Additionally, I have a passion for beer brewing and cooking, which allows me to explore great flavours, usually consumed while playing board games and enjoying some quality time with friends and family.
