European Energy is breaking ground in Green Hydrogen

May 12, 2023

In April 2023, we could finally share the exciting news that the construction of our Power-to-X facility in Måde, Denmark broke ground.

Located by the city of Esbjerg, the facility will be our first in Denmark, which is a big step for European Energy and the first of its kind. The majority of the energy needed for the electrolysers will be supplied by the neighbouring onshore wind turbines, and excess heat from the process will be used for district heating to an equivalent of 200 households. The facility will consist of several different electrolysers with a total capacity of 12 MW.

The first hydrogen is expected to be produced in 2023, and the groundbreaking production plant will serve as a test facility and precedent for future projects.

“Esbjerg has been at the forefront of installations of offshore wind turbines for years and the next step in this energy transition has been to get into the production of green fuels. Today we have been breaking ground and that is a milestone that we have been a part of.”
Jesper Frost Rasmussen, Mayor of Esbjerg
