European Energy and Asahi Europe & International signs PPA

Mar 16, 2023

European Energy and Asahi Europe & International (AEI) has announced the signing of a new multi-year virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), providing renewable energy for the production of Asahi drinks in the UK.

AEI will offtake power production for a multi-year period from the new-to-be-built Marksbury Plain Solar Farm, which is a 19 MW project located near Bath in the south-west of England. The project had planning permission approved by Bath & Northeast Somerset Council in July 2022 and construction is scheduled to commence in the coming months.

The deal supports AEI in its wider sustainability ambition to be carbon neutral across all their European breweries by 2030.

Adam Spearey, Director of European Energy UK Ltd, commented:

“European Energy has developed a strong pipeline of solar and wind projects across the UK, which we will build out over the coming years. Corporate PPAs have an important role to play in our delivery strategy. We are proud to be able to assist sustainability-focused organizations such as Asahi to further decarbonize their operations and support the energy transition in the UK”.

Paolo Lanzarotti, CEO Asahi Europe & International said:

“This latest agreement providing renewable energy for our breweries in the UK marks another important step forward and significant commitment towards our Legacy 2030 goal of becoming carbon neutral in all our breweries by 2030 and across our wider supply chain by 2050. Now more than ever, and together with our partners we are committed to creating meaningful connections with people and the planet”.
