May 07, 2024

In Australia, European Energy has partnered with the First Nations Bailai Gurang Gooreng Gooreng Taribelang Bunda People Development Corporation to explore renewable energy opportunities in the traditional territories of the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, and Taribelang Bunda peoples.

European Energy and the First Nations Bailai Gurang Gooreng Gooreng Taribelang Bunda People Development Corporation (PBC) have signed an exclusivity agreement to assess a number of identified opportunities for developing wind and solar generation sites in the traditional territories of the PBC. The agreement includes Fortescue, a global green energy, metals, and technology company operating in Gladstone, as a potential off taker. These areas are located near Gladstone in Queensland, Australia.

“We are thrilled to support the Traditional Owners of Gladstone as they explore how they can engage in the energy transition. We are eager to leverage our expertise in renewable energy development, EPC, financing, and operations to transform any viable options assessed into successful projects,” said Catriona McLeod, Country Manager for European Energy in Australia.

This partnership marks a significant step in European Energy’s commitment to respectful and inclusive engagement with First Nations peoples.

“Collaborating with European Energy to explore wind and solar opportunities in our traditional country marks a new era in our relationship with major industry and the private sector. It demonstrates that we, as traditional owners, have aspirations to participate in economic development beyond the narrow lens of native title. We look forward with great anticipation to advancing this relationship and commercial opportunities,” said outgoing PBC Chair Matt Cooke.
