European Energy expands with two solar projects in Australia
Sep 10, 2024
European Energy has taken over two solar projects in Australia from Swedish developer OX2. The combined capacity of the solar projects is 137 MW.
Copenhagen, Denmark, 10 September, 2024 – European Energy has acquired the project rights for two solar projects in Australia from Swedish renewable energy developer OX2. The two projects are in the states of Victoria and New South Wales. Construction on both projects is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
The Lancaster Solar Farm in Victoria will have an installed capacity of 106 MW and is expected to become operational in 2026. The Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales will have a capacity of 31 MW and is also scheduled for completion in 2026. Together, these projects are expected to generate approximately 255 GWh of renewable energy annually, enough to power about 54,000 Australian households.
“We are excited to expand our presence in Australia with these two new solar projects. With our strong Australian team, we are committed to bringing the two solar farms into operation, contributing not only to the increased availability of renewable energy in the Australian grid but also to creating more opportunities for local Australians in the renewable energy sector,” says Catriona McLeod, Country Manager for European Energy in Australia.
With these recently acquired projects, European Energy has over 5 GW of renewable energy capacity under development in Australia.
“European Energy sees Australia as a frontrunner in the green transition. Australia’s stable economy and business friendly environment is a large boon to our company. Apart from that, we experience a local and national appreciation of renewable energy projects. All in all, this makes it easy for us as a renewable energy developer to embrace the market and take decisions that will benefit both our company and the local communities we work in,” says Thorvald Spanggaard, EVP of European Energy and Head of Project Development.
European Energy established its office in Melbourne, Australia, in 2022.
