200 MWh of electricity
When Kvosted Solar Park has been upgraded, its batteries will be able to store 200 MWh of electricity.
Case
Nov 28, 2025
As wind and solar become the backbone of the system, batteries offer the flexibility and fast response required to keep the grid reliable.
Because electricity must be consumed the moment it is produced, this weather-driven mismatch between supply and demand pushes the system out of balance. This mismatch causes curtailment—valuable green electricity being wasted because the grid cannot absorb it. Battery energy storage systems (BESS) capture this surplus instead of letting it go to waste.
By balancing the renewable energy supply, BESS reduces the need for fossil‑based backup generation and lowers reliance on imported fuels. This strengthens national energy independence and supports a more resilient, sustainable energy system.
Take a look at the Kvosted BESS construction activities
Stabilising a renewable-dominated grid
As the grids become increasingly powered by wind and solar, the variability of these sources places new demands on grid stability. BESS provides the flexibility required to manage these fluctuations. By storing excess generation during periods of high renewable output and releasing it when production dips, BESS helps ensure a stable and predictable power supply.
Balancing supply and demand
Renewables generate electricity when the wind blows or the sun shines—not necessarily when consumers need it. BESS solves this mismatch by shifting green electrons from times of surplus to times of scarcity. This load‑shifting capability is vital for maintaining system balance, meeting demand reliably, and integrating higher shares of renewables without compromising grid performance.
Enabling a faster and deeper green transition
Storing renewable energy when it is abundant and dispatching it when needed allows the grid to operate reliably. This reliability is critical to phasing out fossil fuels and meeting global climate commitments, making BESS a cornerstone technology for decarbonising the power sector.
Increased stability in project economics means building out more renewables
More stable project economics means more renewables can be built, accelerating the energy transition while ensuring Europe uses its own green power rather than depending on external sources.
Batteries will increasingly shape how we design and operate parks
Because BESS strengthens stability, energy security, and project economics, we will regularly evaluate whether to add storage to existing sites or integrate it into new projects. The choice will always depend on the specific conditions, but storage is becoming an essential part of how we future proof our portfolio.
