European Energy strengthens Power-to-X leadership with focus on execution, partnerships, offtake and long-term commercial value.

– Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen appointed EVP and Head of Power-to-X in European Energy to lead the next phase of execution, operation and commercialisation of the company’s growing PtX portfolio.

– European Energy strengthens the commercial side of Power-to-X with the appointment of Torben Nørgaard as VP, Head of Partnerships and Offtake in Power-to-X to focus on partnerships, offtake and funding models.

– The strengthened leadership setup supports European Energy’s ambition to scale Power-to-X activities across technologies including e-methanol, hydrogen and biobased solutions.

Copenhagen, Denmark, 11th of May, 2026 – Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen has assumed the role of EVP and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy from 1 May 2026 and joined the company’s Leadership Team.

The appointment follows an extensive international search process and reflects the company’s focus on scaling its Power-to-X activities and bringing more projects from development into execution, and commercial operation.

“After conducting a global search for the Head of Power-to-X, I’m pleased that the right profile was found within our own organisation. It reflects the strong talent we have built internally as well as our company’s leading position globally in this area,” says Knud Erik Andersen, CEO of European Energy.

Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen joins the role from within the organisation, where he has played a central role in advancing the company’s Power-to-X activities, including serving as CEO of the JV with Mitsui & Co. Ltd., responsible for developing and delivering the Kassø Power-to-X facility in Denmark.

The Kassø facility, European Energy’s largest Power-to-X project to date, has been developed under demanding conditions and tight timelines as a complex, first-of-its-kind facility. Throughout the project, unforeseen challenges were addressed while maintaining quality standards for customers and partners.

As European Energy’s project and technology portfolio matures across e-methanol, hydrogen and biobased technologies, the next phase will place increased emphasis on commercial models, partnerships, offtake structures and long-term value creation.

“Power-to-X projects should be developed with a clear commercial end in mind. Strong technology and strong execution must be matched by robust revenue models and partnerships that support long-term value creation,” says Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen, EVP and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy.

To support this development, Torben Nørgaard joins European Energy as VP, Head of Partnerships and Offtake, Power-to-X.

Torben Nørgaard will lead offtake and partnership activities across Power-to-X and help define the commercial model for each technology and project. His role includes strengthening partnerships, structuring agreements and supporting the financial setup across project phases, in close collaboration with other functions within European Energy.

Torben Nørgaard brings experience from Topsoe, A.P. Moller – Maersk and the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, combining technical knowledge with experience in commercial structures, partnerships across the value chain in relevant sectors.

European Energy sees the market conditions for Power-to-X as developing positively, supported by ongoing clarification of regulatory frameworks across Europe and recent developments in Germany related to RFNBO fuels, which are helping drive demand and support market maturation.
