The 31 MW Mulwala Solar Farm, which will soon incorporate a 25 MW / 100 MWh battery energy storage system, is now operating at full generation output, adding another renewable energy asset to European Energy’s Australian portfolio.

  • Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales is now operating at full output.
  • The project is due to combine 31 MW of solar capacity with a 25 MW / 100 MWh battery energy storage system.
  • Mulwala is supported by an offtake agreement with AirTrunk backed by  and strengthens European Energy’s growing Australian portfolio.

Copenhagen, Denmark, 5th of November, 2026 – European Energy has officially opened its Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales, Australia, following completion of construction, energisation, and commissioning.

The 31 MW solar farm, which will incorporate a 25 MW / 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), has successfully completed full-output testing and is now operating at full output.

The project’s solar component is supported by an offtake agreement with data centre operator AirTrunk, which provides long-term contracted demand for the project’s renewable electricity.

“Having Mulwala operating at full output is an important step for our activities in Australia. We have taken the project through development, construction, energisation and commissioning, and we are now delivering renewable electricity in New South Wales,” said Catriona McLeod, VP and Head of European Energy Australia

“The majority of the green electricity is going to AirTrunk, with a portion of the energy uncontracted and simply feeding into the grid for energy consumers in New South Wales. We thank our partner AirTrunk for joining us to officially open the site and look forward to continuing the collaboration.”

“AirTrunk is proud to support European Energy’s Mulwala project. The solar farm is now operating at full output, adding renewable generation to NSW. It shows how long-term demand from digital infrastructure can support new renewable generation and contribute to Australia’s energy transition. Partnerships like this can also create meaningful opportunities for local communities,” said Sabooh Whitelaw, Associate Vice President, Utility and Energy, Airtrunk.

Construction of Mulwala Solar Farm began in September 2025 and created more than 250 local jobs with the on-site workforce peaking at 73 per day.

The project required more than 40,000 working hours to install over 50,000 solar panels supported by almost 7,000 piles. Construction was completed in March of this year and energised the same month.

Commissioning and testing continued through 2026, culminating in the project successfully operating at full output in recent weeks before European Energy and AirTrunk joined local stakeholders to officially open the farm.

Mulwala forms part of European Energy’s expanding Australian portfolio across solar, wind and battery storage. European Energy develops and manages across the lifespan of  renewable energy projects, with expertise from early-stage development through construction and operation.

“Moving a project from development through construction and into operation increases the maturity of our portfolio. Mulwala brings together three characteristics that are increasingly important for renewable energy investments: generation, storage and contracted demand,” said Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and Head of Project Development at European Energy.

“Our model is to develop projects across the value chain and create high-quality energy infrastructure that can remain in our portfolio and also provide opportunities for partnerships. Mulwala adds another operating asset to that platform in Australia.”

With Mulwala now operating at full output, European Energy continues to expand its renewable energy activities in Australia, with further solar, wind and battery storage projects under development across the country.
