Q&As with David

Who are you?
I’m David Moya, Sustainability Manager at Group Sustainability in the COO department. I’m from Spain, but I’ve been living in Denmark since 2017. My academic background is in Energy Engineering and Industrial Engineering & Management, which has shaped my passion for sustainability and renewable energy.

How would you describe yourself?
I am a life-athlete, a very active and driven person who enjoys personal growth and new challenges. I love sports and practice a mix of them daily, from more active ones like triathlon, padel tennis, or football to more relaxing ones like yoga, meditation, or chess. I am also a life-learner who loves to challenge himself. I read every day, ranging from health books to psychology and metaphysics, and frequently travel to explore new places and cultures, adding spice and new perspectives to my life.

What do you do at European Energy?
As Sustainability Manager, I lead the Resource Use and Circular Economy workstream across the company, focusing on maximising resource efficiency and embedding circularity principles across the value chain. This includes circular economy strategies, waste management, circular procurement, and regulatory compliance (CBAM, ESRS, and WEEE). My role involves establishing circularity strategies, developing KPIs, and enhancing sustainable value chain practices to support European Energy’s commitment to the green transition and ensure we operate in the most sustainable way possible.

How do you try to be a creative enabler of the green transition?
I like to think of myself as the ‘circularity magician’. I turn complex sustainability challenges into exciting opportunities that boost both sustainability and commercial value. By staying curious about industry innovations and collaborating with diverse colleagues, I work to bring practical and efficient solutions to make our company more sustainable in a cost-efficient manner.

What are the best things about working at European Energy?
What I truly value about working at European Energy is the flexibility and trust from my colleagues and my manager, which allows me to confidently lead impactful projects. The positive energy and genuine camaraderie across departments create an environment where collaboration brings ideas to life in meaningful projects.

Why is it important for you that European Energy is a driving force in the green transition?
As an energy engineer, seeing renewable energy transition from plans into real, tangible projects is incredibly inspiring. European Energy’s active role in sustainably driving this transformation aligns with my passion and professional ambitions. Being directly involved in bringing renewable projects to life motivates me daily to innovate and push for sustainable solutions.

What are the best things about your colleagues?
One of the best things about my colleagues is that they’re not just skilled professionals—they’ve also become friends across teams, making my work easier and more enjoyable. Their passion, expertise, and trust empower me to turn ideas into reality and create meaningful impact. It’s truly motivating to collaborate daily with people who share such great energy and commitment.

European Energy has six core values. In it together, Excitement, Inclusion, Agility, Trust & Courage, and Ambition. What are the most important values for you and why?
The value that resonates most strongly with me is Trust. I appreciate the trust my manager and colleagues have in each other and in me, giving me the autonomy to confidently lead projects. Feeling trusted empowers me, motivates me to consistently go above and beyond, and inspires me to drive positive change. For me, trust is fundamental to living out all our other values.

What has been your best experience so far at European Energy?
My most rewarding experience was exploring the Kassø e-methanol facility with the other employee ambassadors. It was incredible to see such a state-of-the-art facility right before its inauguration. Meeting and spending quality time with colleagues from various countries like Poland, Lithuania, and Denmark was really inspiring. This experience gave me even more enthusiasm and energy to keep contributing to our dynamic international environment.

What do you like to do outside work?
Outside of work, I’m passionate about staying active – sports such as swimming, running, cycling, or padel tennis not only keep me energised but also provide the joy of constantly challenging myself mentally and physically. Reading is another strong passion; it opens new worlds for me, from understanding human psychology to exploring metaphysics, constantly fuelling my curiosity and growth. Time is always in short supply if you have a great book in your hands. And, above all, spending time with my family, cooking together, talking and sharing Spanish food around the table it is definitely what I would do every Sunday 🙂
