In 2018, European Energy took the first step into operating the offshore wind market with the acquisition of Denmark’s Sprogø Windpark from Sund & Bælt Holding A/S.

The wind park consists of 7 MHI Vestas wind turbines, which feature a total capacity of 21 MW. The wind park, which was constructed in 2009 as part of COP15, is a key part of our internal offshore strategy.

Technological advances

The wind turbines at Sprogø were once considered to be very big, but due to technological development and increasing market demand, they do not compare to contemporary offshore turbines. The newest generation of turbines will have a rotor diameter of up to 236 m, and a capacity of around 15 MW per turbines, compared to the about 3 MW of the turbines at Sprogø.
